Quetico Fly in-Basswood Lake to Sarah Lake

Canoe Camping in Canada!

We drove to Atikokan and flew into Quetico with Canoe Canada Outfitters.

We unloaded from the plane just off shore from King’s Point in Basswood Lake. Getting to Canada and the actual plane ride was such an adventure, once we got to King’s Point, it felt like we were done. Okay, what do we do now?

We didn’t go far the 1st day, getting into the park for the 1st night was our main objective. Our 1st couple of days were full of paddling and portaging. Sarah Lake was our next destination. We tried to make it in one day but our 1st day of portaging was wet and slow. We’re not in a hurry anyways.

Finding that one portage was difficult. We looked and looked. I was done and ready to set up camp but Tim was determined to find the portage. We ended up going back to the previous portage and setting up camp for the night. That was the worst weather we encountered for the rest of the trip. Once we got to Sarah Lake everything was better. The sun came out, nice beach area for canoe loading and the wind was in our favor for paddling.
